The all-new and environmentally efficient Urban Environment Building gathers all services that take care of planning, construction and maintenance of the Helsinki urban environment. Designed by Finland’s preeminent architectural practice, Lahdelma & Mahlamäki (LMA), the premises creates office space for 1,500 local government employees. The grand brick building fits well to the Kalasatama industrial look and covers more than 40,000 square meters. It is also the winner of the Tekla BIM Award 2020 in Finland and the Baltic countries. 

In terms of energy efficiency, the Urban Environment House is nearly a zero-energy building. In addition, a 5,000-square-meter green roof with more than 22,000 plants, was placed on the roof. Environmental aspects are also  reflected in long-lasting solutions, such as flexible use of the building. The lighting is designed to bring flexibility to the working environment, allowing changes e.g. in furniture placing.

Fagerhult worked closely with electric planner company Rejlers to ensure the best possible outcome both technically and visually. Fagerhult delivered precisise custom measures of Notor 65 luminaires that are fitted and installed in pairs with cooling elements, optimising design, energy-efficiency and lighting.
