A new handball arena that meets the standards of the European Handball Association was opened in Riihimäki. The arena is suitable for both junior and handball league players. The multiple Finnish handball champion Riihimäki Cocks used to play in a hall that did not meet the requirements of the sports federation, eg. the size of the field. The new hall now seats 2500 spectators. The Arena was financed mostly by private funds.
Handball has demanding standards for glare and the European Handball Association demands a lighting intensity of 1500 lux at the court. Since Fagerhult had successfully worked together with the electric constructor Riihimäen Sähkö-Teho, the selection of lighting partner was self-evident. The hall is illuminated using Excis LED, which has been specially developed for sports halls and has been tested for ball impact. The project went smoothly and joint design meetings brought together the overall lighting package. With fluent and transparent communication, a few on-site visits and on-time deliveries, the end result is a success.
The café and press room take advantage of the lively look created by Lepo LED luminaire. The luminaire is designed to provide comfortable general lighting for a variety of common areas such as lobbies, reception areas and stairwells. In toilets and changing rooms, Discovery Evo* is fitted with a recessed frame and is controlled by presence detection.
The Arena is also rented for fairs, meetings and concerts. The hall's specialty is probably the only sauna in the world, where you can also watch handball games.
