Conscious production.

Over the years, we have had the drive to create a conscious and sustainable production. We have actively chosen 100% renewable energy from different sources, including solar- and hydro power. This gives us a good starting point as we now take new steps towards net-zero emissions from our Swedish factory in Scope 1 and Scope 2*: with reduced resource use, continuously increasing energy savings, and a more circular use of materials.

* Scope 1 concerns direct emissions from our operations. Scope 2 refers to indirect emissions from the energy we purchase and use in our properties – such as electricity, district heating and cooling.

OUR TARGETS:

- to achieve net-zero emissions from our production facility in Sweden.

- to not treat any waste as landfills.

UN GOAL NO. 12

Responsible consumption and production

To achieve sustainable development, we need to manage and use natural resources in a sustainable way globally and reduce waste by preventing, reusing and recycling waste. We can contribute by establishing long-term sustainable production.

12.2 Sustainable management and use of natural resources

We have been making sustainable choices to reduce our impact from electricity and heating for a long time.

12.5 Substantially reduce waste generation

We shall not treat any waste as landfill – everything must be recycled, primarily into new useful material, rather than energy.

12.6 Encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices and sustainability reporting

We report the emissions from our operations (Scope 1 + 2) as part of our sustainability report.

What are we doing to achieve our targets?

To contribute to a future characterised by sustainable decisions, it is important for us to have production close to the market. Our Swedish factory in Fagerhult is at the same place where everything began, and it has been expanded about forty times, as stable investments. This has enabled us to ensure that our products are of the quality and standard we want, so we can meet tomorrow’s requirements.

In our journey towards a more conscious production unit, we have invested in and installed solar panels on the roof of our Swedish factory. The panels generate about 140,000 kWh of electricity per year, corresponding to the annual electricity consumption of thirty apartments. Our employees can also use the energy generated by the solar panels to charge their electric cars during the workday.

We recycle all our production waste to the greatest extent possible. In our production, we have more than thirty fractions in which we recycle materials, and at the same time enable it to be recycled in the purest form possible. We work with Stena Recycling, which ensures that our waste is given new life through collection and recycling. About 1% of the total waste are treated as landfill, and as much as 85% is recycled into new useful materials and can live on as something else. The rest of our waste is converted into energy that can heat households and buildings.

Our life-cycle assessments (LCAs) show that production constitutes a very small part of the total climate impact of our luminaires. This is thanks to our production being powered by 100% renewable energy, such as from solar and hydropower. We also recycle almost all our waste into new material and energy. This is an important element of our circular work, and we are dedicated to becoming even more efficient to further minimise our environmental impact. We will never become satisfied.
